Student Spotlight: Jani Pierre

Tell us about yourself.
Hi! My name is Jani Pierre. I am originally from Bimini, Bahamas. I completed my undergrad with a major in Business Administration and a double minor in Marketing & Entrepreneurship at McDaniel College, in Westminster, Maryland. Learning about Duquesne’s MBA program was the first I’d heard about a one-year MBA program, so as I learned more about it I loved the integration of sustainable business practices in the curriculum.

What are you most looking forward to in the next 10 years?
I am most excited to further my career in the entrepreneurship field. I hope to gain insight on how to successfully start a business and how I can incorporate sustainability into it.

What are you most looking forward to in the One-Year MBA program?
I am mostly looking forward to working with clients and getting to work on consulting projects. I am also excited to get to know my cohort and how we can work together with the differences in our backgrounds.

Where is the most interesting place you’ve been?
The most interesting place that I’ve been is Portugal. I spent last summer traveling abroad for 2 weeks with my family. We visited multiple parts of Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Out of all 3, Portugal was my favorite because of its diverse population, delicious food, and beautiful culture. I will say though, that riding a camel in Morocco was the best part of the whole trip!

What is the best way to start the day?
The best way for me to start my day is with my devotion. Just being here is a privilege, so I always want to thank God for all that he has done for me. Another important thing for me in the mornings is breakfast! It ensures that I am energized throughout the day, which allows me to be more productive.

Where would you spend all of your time if you could?
If I could, I would spend all of my time traveling the world. I’ve been to so many countries and there are so many more on my bucket list like Jamaica, Indonesia, South Korea, and Switzerland. I love learning about new cultures and being in an unfamiliar environment that can expand my knowledge of the world. As long as I’m learning, I don’t care where I am!
