Student Spotlight: Sven Lynch

Tell us about yourself.
I completed my undergraduate studies and Naval Officer training at Purdue University.  I served, as a part of Naval Aviation, during September 11th and the years that followed completing two overseas deployments and graduating from TOPGUN.  After my Naval career, I obtained a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at The University of Pittsburgh.  A few years later, I became Board Certified as a Neurologic Clinical Specialist.  Four years ago, I started my own practice called Pittsburgh Concierge Therapy to meet a need in the community to see patients at home, who otherwise would not pursue the care they very much required.  Being a small business owner has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional career.

My life has always been centered around service.  I am pursuing an MBA in Sustainable Business Practices to learn how I can continue to expand the positive social impact I can have on the local, regional, and global community.

What is one of your favorite things to do in Pittsburgh?
The thing I love best about Pittsburgh is walking around and exploring all of its distinct neighborhoods.  I enjoy experiencing the unique feel and diversity of each community while trying out the different popular restaurants and coffee shops they have to offer.

Where is the most interesting place you’ve been?
The Azores are an island chain hundreds of miles west of Portugal.  One of the islands has two adjacent, volcano-formed lakes named Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde and they really are side-by-side blue and green lakes.

What could you give a 30 minute presentation on without any preparation?
I could talk for a very long time on how to teach people to walk whether it is a young child learning to take steps for the first time or a person relearning how to walk after suffering a traumatic neurological or orthopedic injury.

Where would you spend all of your time if you could?
I have been fortunate enough to visit 23 different countries around the world ranging between Finland, Peru, and Thailand.  If I could, I would spend my time exploring many more and returning to the best places I’ve been.

Who inspires you to be better?
My wife and two children are my inspiration to continuously improve myself.  I want my kids to know they can work hard to have a life, rich with experience, and meaningful to the world around them.
