Student Spotlight: Samantha Rothrock

Tell us about yourself.
Hi, I am Samantha Rothrock and I am from Franklin Park, PA.  I went to Duquesne for my undergrad and got my BSBA in Digital Marketing and Analytics with a Minor in Management.  I have worked as a Sales Associate at Marshalls for 3.5 years and was a Shift Supervisor at Rite Aid for about a year.  I have also helped my dad with his consulting business by contacting his clients via email, making presentations, and even sending out Christmas cards.  I heard about the MBA-SBP program my freshman year, but wasn’t sure where I’d be in four years so I was on the fence about it.  Then senior year I decided to further my education at Duquesne because of the sustainability concentration and that it is only a year. My career goals are to work in fashion and help companies manufacture products more sustainably and to help reduce waste in the process.  My dream is to work in high fashion, but I would like to work for any fashion company.

What is one of your favorite things to do in Pittsburgh?
This question is so hard because this city has so many different areas to it and I love each one for different reasons.  If I had to narrow it down it would be going to the South Side or the Strip District.  I lived in the South Side for two years with my friends and it was really fun to explore the bars (Mario’s is my favorite) , restaurants (Benny’s $5 sliced pizza is the best, it’s huge), and the unique stores down there (Buffalo Exchange, Urban Outfitters, and The Culture Shop are my favorites).  I’ve been going to the Strip District since I was a kid so it is nostalgic and again, the unique restaurants and shops are fun to experience.

What are you most looking forward to in the MBA-SBP program?
I am looking forward to the abroad trip to Portugal in the spring and learning with my cohort!

If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning a medal for?
Sleeping.  I am almost too good at it and if it was an Olympic sport, I’d be the Michael Phelps of sleeping.  Also shopping, I will shop til I drop.

What skill would you like to master?
I have always been interested in learning how to drive a stick shift car.  I feel like it is a skill that’s nice to have in your back pocket.

Where is the most interesting place you’ve been?
The most interesting place I have ever been to was Switzerland.  I went in June 2019 with my family because my dad needed to go there for work and it was the most  beautiful country I have ever been to.  Everything is so green, I got the reddest strawberries and raspberries that I have ever seen in my life, and every single thing I ate was so good.  It was a bit expensive, but it was so clean and beautiful that it was worth it.  Highly recommend it if you get the chance to go.
