Life in Pittsburgh

by Brendan Cain

I enrolled in the Duquesne MBA-SBP program because I loved the school and faculty and wanted to spend a year in Pittsburgh. I am from Elkins, West Virginia and wanted to experience living in a city for the first time in my life. During my first weekend in Pittsburgh, my friend Shannon (pictured) showed me around the city. Being from a small town all my life it was very cool to experience Pittsburgh and all of the great views the city has to offer. Changing to the city life has been quite the adjustment, especially with Covid, but I have managed so far.

In my time in Pittsburgh I have fallen in love with the city, but I do miss home more and more as time passes. Most of all, I miss being able to drive pretty much anywhere I needed to go in less than 10 minutes. However, the city has a lot of fun things to do that I have enjoyed so far. From playing golf, to exploring the views around the city, as well as all of the great places to eat, Pittsburgh has been super fun so far.

I came into this program straight from undergrad where I attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and studied Business Administration and Economics. While it would have been nice to have a larger break before taking on the workload I have received over the last several months, I can appreciate the challenge. My time at Wesleyan prepared me well for the business courses in this program but learning about sustainable business practices has been a whole new challenge for me. These courses have been very interesting, and they have given me a new outlook on business altogether. I am excited to apply what I have learned this year when I join the workforce.
