Student Spotlight: Cassie Fly

Tell us about yourself?
Howdy! My name is Cassie Fly and I am from Texas. My husband and I moved here from Texas in October 2019 for his job. I attended Texas A&M University and graduated with an undergrad in Business Management. For the past 5 years my career has been in the multifamily industry managing apartment communities and about a year in human resources for the same industry. Through the MBA-SBP program I am looking to develop an all-around better and more detailed understanding of how to run a sustainable business. Starting my own outdoor adventure business has always been a dream of mine and I would like the ability by the end of this program to have the tools needed to do this. If not my own business, I would like the opportunity to be in a position of influence for sustainability in another company. In my career and hobbies thus far, I have found a passion for two things. The first is people and helping them grow in their career, relationships, and self. The second is a passion for being outdoors and getting others to as well. I would like to incorporate these into my career moving forward.

What is one of your favorite things to do in Pittsburgh?
One of my favorite things to do in the Pittsburgh area is rock climbing. I started going to a rock gym this winter in order to do something active when it was cold outside. I’ve really started to enjoy it and started climbing outside at nearby state parks and taking a few classes to learn more.

What skill would you like to master?
I want to master the art of communication. Communication is so complex and diverse that you never stop learning how to improve in it and its influence seems endless.

What is the best way to start the day?
The best morning to me is waking up well rested to the sound of birds and a good breakfast.

Where would you spend all of your time if you could?
I would spend half my time outdoors doing something active and the other half I would spend cooking for family and friends.

Who inspires you to be better?
My uncle inspires me to be better. He is largely driven by his faith and values. With an even temperament and growth mindset, he never seems to let anything upset or disturb him, but simply takes whatever comes and does his best.
