Student Spotlight: Akash Verma

Tell us about yourself.

I graduated from Ryerson University in Toronto with a degree in Finance. Prior to starting the MBA-SBP program, I worked as a district manager for a private property management company in Toronto. I had worked there for about three years and I’ve found it to be a great experience. I managed a small group of property managers and I’ve had the opportunity to manage all aspects of the business from, marketing, to operations, to sales, and maintenance. You name it I’ve done it. I’m actually very happy I had the opportunity to work in this position; because it’s a smaller company I’ve been able to learn a lot and oversee more aspects of the business. If I was working for a larger property management company, I would have been more restricted in terms of my duties and I wouldn’t have learned as much.

I’m also very fortunate to have had this position because it has helped me realize my passion, which is property management and real estate development. I am currently working towards my real estate license and I have obtained my mortgage license. In addition to that, I have started my own property management company, The Verma Property Group.

With this program, not only will I obtain an MBA to become a much stronger manager and leader…I believe Sustainable Business Practices are important because more and more businesses are reorienting their strategies to align with sustainable development goals. With this program, not only will I obtain an MBA to become a much stronger manager and leader, but I will also obtain a background in Sustainable Business Practices which will help me make a serious difference to the world.
